With 4.3m high walls and a weatherproof design, this 15 x 30m warehouse is used to store construction materials in Southern England.
To deliver the required level of support and building strength, anodized aluminium frame profiles connected with steel joints were used. This provides a rigid structure which is wind load tested up to 0.5 kN/m² and will support snow loads of 88 kg/m². Additional frame stability came from steel cable bracing and support beams that connect the eaves.
For added insulation the thermal roof was made from air filled sections of flame-retardant PVC in accordance with DIN 4102/B1, M2. This double skin roof design traps pockets of air to provide high levels of insulation. The corrugated steel walls and gable ends were finished in a bold green (RAL 6005) and the panels were mounted so that the corrugations ran vertically.
The warehouse was installed on an existing tarmac area using base plates and ground anchors. The bottom of the walls was finished with steel edging for a weatherproof seal. To keep rainwater draining off the roof from falling near the building, galvanized gutters with downpipes on both long sides of the building were installed.
Vehicle access was provided by a 4.8 x 3.5m insulated electric roller shutter door with three-button control (dead man's control) and emergency manual override. Personnel access is through a single-leaf emergency exit door.
